On 29th May we took part in Urban Art Madrid and presented the installation Water as valuable as gold.

This year the outdoor festival was made in Esta es una Plaza, a unique venue in Madrid, a garden which neighbours look after on a Plot of land …..by theTown Hall, where vegetables are Brown and people get together to be out in the open.

The problem is that the Plot, which is full of fruit trees and plants, is that there is no water supply, so in order to provide them with it, the neighbours have generously, bring it out from their homes for watering.

With the great value of water in mind here, we aimed at carrying out an intervention with this element. Not to a single drop of water has been wasted and by the end of the evening all had been watered.

We made up a rustic lights made out of plastic bags, golden wáter ( with eatable colouring) and confeti, all the same coloour.

We made 100 units by hand, we lit them and shaped them like snow balls, and when they were waved, the golden pieces flew inside giving out happy glistenings that lit the space, all dark until then.

At the end of the evening, the people attending left but first they should bear a small hole in the bag, so that the confetti remain in the bag and water with the water inside, some of the vegetables or trees in the The Square.

What we intended with our installation is that people who have attended and did not know about this place, lured by the Festival, would be conscious of this huge urban space.

In addition the wonderful artists and friends who participated in the festival, were privileged to be present when Blu painted a polemic wall on one of the sides of the plot.

We wish to thank Alberto de Pedro for including us in the Festival, neighbours of This is a Square for their help and Luis for the water he provided us with.

The photos are like always by Gustavo Sanabria.
